SOPHISTICATED COLOR POP

Lately, I've been very inspired by Hollywood movie sets roughly spanning the mid-1950's to the mid-1960's. Think movies like Giant or a whole host of Doris Day movies. The interior decoration often had neutral backgrounds (off-whites, beiges, and grays) with sudden pops of color in the furniture, carpeting, or the occasional accent wall. The result was just a bit startling and very exciting.

 

We've been seeing a lot of saturated color lately -- which is great, the influence of Dorothy Draper lives on -- but there is something so sophisticated and fresh about the more restrained use of color -- pastels or more vibrant colors really pop against a neutral background.

 



Now pictured these same rooms pared down -- less clutter, same vibrantly colored furniture, but with a more neutral background.
